Popis: | In comparison with normal monolithic materials, composite materials are having many advantages and are widely used in the present-day technologies for various applications. The current work is to prepare metal matrix composites of Si3N4 reinforced Al6061 by stir casting technique and subjecting the composites to Severe Plastic Deformation (SPD) through Equal Channel Angular Pressing (ECAP) for 3 passes and to study the tribological characteristics of Al6061-Si3N4 composites. By changing the reinforcement percentage from 0 to 4% in the increments of 1%, the Aluminium Metal Matrix composites (AMCs) are fabricated. As the reinforcement percentage and the number of passes increased, the deformation load also increases making the specimens to undergo more and more strain hardening. The wear test has been performed on the specimens for speeds 100, 200 and 300 rpm at 10 N, 20 N and 30 N loads. The specimen has exhibited an increase in both hardness and wear resistance. |
