Popis: | Three ball thrombi have been encountered in 156 consecutive autopsy cases in which rheumatic heart disease was the principal or an important contributory cause of death. Rheumatic mitral stenosis with auricular fibrillation was present in all three cases. The ball thrombi occurred in the left atrium. It cannot be determined whether the ball thrombi were the cause of attacks of syncope which two of these patients suffered. The third patient died suddenly. At autopsy a smooth ovoid shaped thrombus was found wedged into the stenosed mitral orifice. |
