The purpose of this research was to investigate the effects of control-display gain, method of cursor movement, and target resolution on target selection performance with a touch tablet. A relatively low gain of approximately 0.8 to 1.0 resulted in faster rates of target selection and fewer entries into the target prior to confirmation than did higher or lower gains. In addition, an absolute mode of cursor movement in which the cursor appears on the display in a position corresponding to the location of the finger on the touch tablet resulted in better performance than a relative cursor movement mode. Finally, large targets were selected more quickly and with less errors and target entries than were smaller targets. |
