The authors examine a series of ecological maps published or in preparation for the Lake Baykal region from the perspective of their utility in the solution of a range of urgent environmental and land-use problems. A discussion of major methodological considerations involved in the compilation of the maps is followed by in-depth discussion of the organization and content of three different map series—republic-level, rayon-level, and special-area (Tunka National Nature Park).
