Popis: | BACKGROUND Snoring is a common problem, which is now receiving more attention from ENT surgeons, internal physicians and general practitioners. In the last three decades, different surgical techniques have been developed. Uvulo-palato-pharyngoplasty (UPPP) and more often Laser Assisted Uvulopalatoplasty (LAUP) have been used as a treatment for snoring caused by the soft palate (velum palatinum). METHODS The Argon High Frequency Uvulo-Palatoplasty (AHFUP) is a new surgical technique. A special multifunctional probe allows a bipolar cutting under an argon gas atmosphere. The incisions correspond to the laser technique (LAUP). The intervention is performed under local anaesthesia. RESULTS The intervention causes no haemorrhage and no undesirable smoke. The thermal alteration of the tissue is only superficial and without any carbonisation of the section. This daycase procedure causes less or no pain. The method is reasonably priced. CONCLUSION The Argon High Frequency Uvulo-Palatoplasty has some significant advantages over the other techniques. |
