Popis: | When we undertook to study this topic a year ago, we came up against the opinion of certain specialists that there was no special problem at all, inasmuch as all families these days were having a hard time of it. And, to some extent, our opponents were right. Over the past three years, people's real incomes have declined by 50 percent to 75 percent. Pay differentials between the top 10 percent and bottom 10 percent of workers ran as high as twenty-five to twenty-seven times. We are seeing an extraordinary polarization of Russians' incomes, a polarization that is growing precipitously. At first glance, families of the unemployed may not stand out much among the masses of poor people. Nevertheless, as shown in a survey by the VNIK of the sociology faculty of Moscow State Social University, they do have their own specifics, and therefore we should like to share the findings of our scientific survey. |
