Due to the aging problem, motility disturbance is increasing among aged persons, which results from disordering of hard tissue. Artificial implant biomaterials are used to reconstructed the defective bones to maintain life quality. Therefore, novel biomaterials with promoted reliability, bioactive functions and lifetime are constantly needed. As surface characteristics of biomaterials play key roles in determining the service effect of artificial implants, a number of bioceramic coatings are developed to imporove their biocompatibility and durability. Thermal spraying techniques are the most widely adopted for the depositon of these coatings due to their universality and economical efficiency. This chapter will briefly review the progress on the traditional thermal spray and cold spray fabrification of bioceramic and related composite coatings and the subsequent control over biomaterial–cell interactions. |
