Popis: The head of the femur is shaped like rather more than a half of a sphere and is directed upwards medially and slightly forwards to articulate with the acetabulum. It is smooth and has a small dip. This dip is the fovea, which gives access for the ligamentum teres and blood vessels. Inferior to the head of the femur is the neck, which is about 5 cm long and is continuous with the shaft of the femur. The angle of the neck to the shaft of the femur is about 125°. The neck of the femur is its weakest part. Immediately at the base of the neck of the femur is found the greater trochanter superiorly, and the lesser trochanter inferiorly.
