Popis: The corrosion of mild steel in a deaerated sulfuric acid solution has been monitored by a microprocessor controlled potentiostat. The corrosion rate and the Tafel slopes were calculated by three methods and comparisons were made between the integrated corrosion currents and the weight losses. Computer fitting of the polarization data around the corrosion potential was the most reliable method of calculation, and the corrosion rates so determined compared closely with weight loss. The corrosion rate of the end of a mild steel rod was greater than for the side although the Tafel slopes were the same (ba = 76 mV, and bc = 100 mV).
