Popis: | Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is a chronic pain disorder, that affects the trigeminal nerve. The frequency, duration, and severity of the painful attacks, increase gradually, and often become resistant to medication. This case report shows how TN pain was successfully controlled, using acupuncture treatment. A 76 years-old female diabetic patient, suffered from Trigeminal neuralgia (TN). She had been subjected to a course of treatment by Carbamazepine for several years, but without remarkable improvement. The patient had been advised to try acupuncture treatment, and so she was subjected to two twenty minutes of separate sessions of this treatment, over two consecutive months. A successful pain relief had been realized through the following three years, after which the patient asked for more acupuncture sessions, because of pain recrudescence. The result of this case was significant because the trigeminal neuralgia pain that had persisted for a long time, was cured successfully by acupuncture treatment. |
