Popis: | The current study examined whether the Schutte Self-Report Scale of trait emotional intelligence (EI) incrementally predicts psychology GPA and three affective outcomes in a sample of 135 third-year university students. Before controlling for covariates, EI was significantly associated with loneliness and life satisfaction, but not with high school achievement, psychology GPA, or stress experienced in the past week. After controlling for Big Five personality, EI significantly predicted loneliness, but not life satisfaction. After controlling for Big Five personality and high school achievement, EI showed a significant negative relationship with psychology GPA. Results are discussed in terms of the overlap between trait EI and Big Five personality, and a resource allocation explanation for why high EI students show lower grades, but also lower levels of loneliness. |
