Popis:	The purpose of this paper is to first describe the species Arthrospira platensis, previously referenced as ‘Spirulina platensis’ (commonly referred to as ‘Spirulina’), and then to provide a review of the literature in regards to four main areas of Spirulina research: Immune system modulation; anti-viral activity; cancer preventive properties, and cardiovascular benefits. This paper focuses on research done since the year 2000, but references some important work completed before 2000 in certain cases. All citations are from published journals.
