Popis: INTRODUCTION LITERATURE on aureomycin as a growth stimulant is voluminous, but very little is known regarding the value of this substance in controlling parasites. The earliest work on record in which aureomycin was used as an agent against poultry coccidiosis is that of Seeger, Lucas and Tomhave (1950). These investigators reported excellent control of cecal coccidiosis in chickens when a mash containing 900 grams of aureomycin per ton was fed continuously. Ingram and Edgar (1951) found that aureomycin stimulated growth of chicks affected with cecal coccidiosis to the extent that the survivors grew as well as the uninoculated controls, but mortality and morbidity were not entirely prevented. Marthedal and Velling (1953), using aureomycin in solution in the drinking water, reported that some coccidiostatic effect was obtained with 50 milligrams of this antibiotic per liter (equal to 50 grams per ton in the feed), provided that the treatment was instituted not …
