A new concept of a standard antenna is proposed for measuring antenna factor (AF) or gain. In order to verify the proposed concept for the standard antenna, two horn antennas, operating from 26.5 GHz to 40 GHz, having the same characteristics were designed and fabricated. The homogeneity of the two antennas fabricated was verified by measuring a site insertion loss (S 21 ) between any arbitrary source antenna and the fabricated antennas. All measured values are similar to within 0.17 dB. We then determined a standard AF using R-SAM, which is the national Radio Research Agency-Standard Antenna Method. We also apply the R-SAM using the determined standard AF to measure a commercial antenna which is used for measuring rain attenuation. The difference between the measured result and the manufacture-supplied result is 0.15 dB. Thus, the effectiveness of R-SAM is verified. |
