Various mechanisms are involved in the formation and growth of tumors, among which is the formation of new blood vessels, angiogenesis. The present work investigated the antiangiogenesis activity of dichloromethane extracts from the leaves and branches of Duroia macrophylla Huber (Rubiaceae). Which is an arboreal and fruit species from the Amazon Rainforest and for which triterpenes and indole alkaloids have alreadybeen isolated. The antiangiogenic capacity of the extracts was evaluated using the Chorioallantoic Membrane Assay method in chicken eggs. The results show that the extracts inhibited the formation of new vessels in a range of 80 to 50% in the doses of 1000, 500 and 100 μg/mL. These results indicate the great antiangiogenic potential of this species. |
