Popis: | As a result of the findings by the President's Commission on Foreign Language and International Studies, the attention of the entire country focused on America's monolingualism. The report of the Commission postulated that part of the problem stems from ineffective language instruction in our schools. A solution to this dilemma might be in-service opportunities, such as intensive summer institutes funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities. The format and content of two highly successful four-week sessions conducted at Purdue University to help meet the needs of practicing secondary school teachers of French, German, and Spanish is described and is proposed as a model for similar programs elsewhere. |
