The current project will examine how jurors perceive witnesses who testify with a support animal or support person in court. Participants will watch an animated video of a sexual assault case where a witness gives testimony in the presence of a support animal (e.g., a dog), a support person (e.g. a family member) or neither. Following this, they will be asked questions regarding their decision-making in the case and their perceptions of the witness. The findings will be useful for determining the benefits and drawbacks of the use of support animals and support persons in Australian (and international) courts. |
