This project investigates the effects of objective and subjective non-invasive brain stimulation on cognitive performance. To our knowledge, no study has yet assessed whether participants' subjective belief about having received neurostimulation exerts an effect on the investigated outcome measure. Here, we address this question by examining data collected on four-hundred healthy subjects that underwent an eleven-day computer-based cognitive training in combination with either real or sham neurostimulation. Subjects in the stimulation condition either received transcranial random noise stimulation (tRNS) or transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS). Data collection was carried out as part of a controlled, randomized, double-blind, multicenter study design by different research teams representing the University of Oxford, the Harvard Medical School, Honeywell, and Northeastern University. |
