With the use of the Gracia-Oller axioencephalographic wheel 496 air contrast studies were performed. Of the patients studied 282 received general anesthesia. Twenty-three studies of the complete cardiovascular and respiratory effects of general anesthesia on these patients were performed, with the conclusion that the primary change observed was in total peripheral resistance. No deaths were related to the air studies or the anesthetic in the series. The Gracia-Oller axioencephalographic wheel and general anesthesia have been found to be safe for patients whenever there is doubt that an air study of diagnostic quality can be obtained otherwise. |
