Popis: A new dasyatidid stingray,Dasyatis izuensis sp. nov., from Japan is described on the basis of specimens collected from the Izu Peninsula. The new species is distinguished by having the following characters: diamond-shaped disc; dorsal tail keel; white ventral tail fold, its length 24.6–32.3% of disc width; short preorbital snout length, 14.1–18.7% of disc width; smooth body even in adults except for a row of 2–6 small tubercles before tail spine; and 18–20 intestinal valve turns.
