Analysis of the impact of graphene coating on reflectivity of a silicon substrate for optoelectronic devices

Popis: In this work, we analyze the effect of graphene coating on reflectivity of a silicon substrate. First, the reflectance of a thin layer of silicon, a thin film without graphene coating, is computed. Thereafter, by applying the transfer matrix method, the reflectance of silicon substrate with a monolayer graphene coating is determined. We compare the reflectance plots of the Si substrate in different cases of graphene coatings and some important insights are drawn. Comparing the reflectance spectra plotted in different cases, we infer that graphene coating effectively reduces the reflectance of silicon substrate, which is in a good agreement with the results obtained experimentally by some of the investigators. Such an antireflection coating of graphene, for the specified parameters in the analysis, can be used in efficiency enhancement of solar cells and photodiodes, and may also introduce innovative applications in design of other silicon-based optoelectronic devices.
