An antenna is an essential component of any communications or radar system, acting as a transducer between free-space and the transmitting or receiving system. As a key antenna parameter, antenna gain is a measure of the extent to which the antenna transmits or receives energy preferentially in a given direction. Of the many measurement techniques for determining the gain of an antenna, the most accurate is the three-antenna extrapolation technique, in which measurements made in the near-field are extrapolated to give the infinite range, far-field gain. A metrology-level antenna gain measurment facility based on this technique has been developed at the National Institute of Metrology (NIM), China. This paper present a practical gain calibration of a WR10 (75 GHz - 110 GHz) standard gain horn (SGH) as an example of the verification of the new facility's performance. An expanded uncertainty of as low as ±0.06 dB has been achieved. |
