Popis: Collection and landfilling of municipal wastes and particularly plastic wastes cause enormous costs and irreparable damage to the environment due to pollution issues. To solve these problems, different approaches can be utilized; one of the most efficient methods is pyrolysis process. In this study, pyrolysis process was modeled using kinetic approaches and quality control techniques were hired to assess and optimize this process. Conversion rate, heating rate, and pyrolysis temperature were considered as processing parameters. Central composite design of response surface methodology was utilized to perform analysis of variance and optimization procedure. The results of parametric study revealed that activation energy required for pyrolysis process was decreased with the raise of conversion rate and heating rate and with the reduction of temperature. A regression model was presented using the analysis of variance with high validity to predict the results of the activation energy. The findings indicated that the temperature was the most effective process parameter on the activation energy required for the pyrolysis process followed by conversion rate and heating rate. The square terms of the considered parameters were also important from effectiveness viewpoint. The optimization procedure was conducted to identify the optimum conditions for achieving the minimum activation energy.
