Popis: Malignant tumors of the small intestine are relatively rare. A case of leiomyosarcoma operated on to diagnose an ovarian tumor is reported. A 51-year-old woman was suspected of having an ovarian tumor as a result of an internal examination and ultrasonography. Laparotomy was performed in October, 1995, but there were no abnormal findings in the ovary or uterus. The tumor was located in the jejunum approximately 50 cm distal to the ligament of Treitz, and had grown extraluminally opposite the mesentery. The tumor was circumscribed and solid, and measured 6.6 × 6.5 × 5.0cm in size. There was extensive peritoneal dissemination. As a result, a diagnosis of leiomyosarcoma of the jejunum with dissemination was made, and partial resection of the jejunum was performed. The histological diagnosis was leiomyosarcoma. Although the patient has no symptoms at present 4 months after the operation, additional removal of the rest of the peritoneal disseminations may be necessary.
