The goal of endodontic therapy is the removal of all vital or necrotic tissues, microorganisms, and microbial by-products from the root canal space. Amongst the treatment steps, chemomechanical procedures play a pivotal role in eliminating or reducing bacterial populations from the main root canal, but the disinfecting effects of instruments and irrigants may be somewhat hampered in cases of complex anatomy. Thus, a thorough understanding of the canal morphology and its variations and the comprehension regarding clinical skills and armamentarium needed to manage these complexities are basic requirements for successful endodontic therapy. This chapter details various clinically relevant anatomical canal complexities and highlights diagnostic approaches, treatment techniques, and managing strategies to successfully deal with these anomalies revealed by clinicians with high expertise in the field of endodontics. |
