Popis: | Despite recent advances, current therapies for metastatic breast cancer rarely achieve response rates greater than 60%, and complete responses are rare. Adjuvant treatment of certain stage I and II breast cancer patients can improve survival compared with untreated patients, but relapse following adjuvant therapy remains a common problem, as does our inability to determine which individual patients are most likely to benefit from adjuvant treatment. Current laboratory research concerning the involvement of peptide growth factors in the pathophysiology of breast cancer is providing clues that suggest new approaches to these clinical challenges. |
