Popis:	The Global Change and Terrestrial Ecosystems (GCTE) Core Project of IGBP includes a Task aimed at determining the effects of global change on soil organic matter (T3.3.1). This paper describes the rationale, structure and objectives of GCTE, and in particular those of Task 3.3.1. The paper also introduces the GCTE soil organic matter research network (SOMNET).
