Work on the topography of Palmyra grew and introduced corrections and clarifications in the plan of the city. If the city loses its international economic and commercial role in the wake of the reorganization of the defense system under the imperial authority (Williams 1985: 94-96) and the movement of the trade route between the Persian empires and Roman to a single route further north by Edessa and Nisibis (Sartre, 2004: 311-316), it retains a role in two areas: in the military, and in religion. The study of Christian Palmyra is completed by considering another aspect little developed so far, but spoke quickly in our description of the basilicas 2 and 3, that of the world of the dead addressed during searches of the French Mission on the Suburban market. The original text of the chapter is in French. Keywords: basilicas; imperial authority; military, Palmyra; religion; Suburban market. |
