Popis: Evaluation of sperm in cervical mucus is a useful initial test for the infertile couple. Evaluation includes determination of motile sperm in the cervical mucus following intercourse, called the postcoital test. Laboratory-based tests include a check of the amount and quality of a woman's midcycle cervical mucus, a slide test to see if partner or donor sperm enter a drop of patient or donor midcycle cervical mucus on a slide, as well as if partner or donor sperm enter into a capillary tube filled with the female partner's or donor cervical mucus. Such tests can assist the physician in determining if there is a deficiency with the cervical mucus or with the sperm ability to penetrate the cervical mucus. Several treatment options can then be made available to bypass the hostile cervical mucus, or improve on reduced sperm count, motility, or inability of sperm to penetrate the mucus.
