Popis: | Complex theories of transfer from translational to internal energy in gaseous collisions can be tested in an accurate and fairly simple way, by comparing catalytic efficiencies of transfer by the isotopic molecules H2O and D2O. Results are given for experiments with the vibrators N2O, CO2, SO2, CH3Cl, C2H4and cyclopropane. The ratio of efficiencies conforms with the ratio of the masses of H2O and D2O for C2H4, and within the limits of error for CH3Cl, but not for the other vibrators. With each of these molecules, in different ways, more than one catalytic mechanism appears to be operative for the transfer of internal energy. |
