The strong El Nino which was occured in 1982/1983, 1997/1998, and 2015/2016 caused impacts in some sectors such as agriculture and horticulture in some region in Indonesia, including Sumatra. The understanding of strong El Nino infulence to seasonal variability in Sumatra is expected to reduce negative impacts which is different in each region. Rainfall observation data from eight BMKG stations in Sumatra in 1982, 1983, 1997, 1998, 2015, and 2016 has been analyzed to find out seasonal on set shifting, seasonal length deviation and seasonal condition, by comparing the seasonal pattern in strong El Nino year which was mentioned before with the normal condition. The result shows that strong El Nino has different influence in each region of Sumatra. Southern region of Sumatra is effected stronger than the northern region of Sumatra. Mosly, strong El Nino influence dry season to come 1 until 12 dasarians earlier than normal, with 1 until 16 dasarians longer period, and less rainfall from normal condition. On set of rainy season in strong El Nino years were mostly delayed 1 until 10 dasarians and 1 until 21 dasarians shorter than normal, even there was no rainy season in some regions. |
