Popis: The oxidation of 2-furaldehyde to β-formylacrylic acid in 0.1 N HClO4 containing hydrogen peroxide and sodium vanadate was studied by polarography using a dropping mercury electrode. The conversion of 2-furaldehyde and the yield of the products were found to depend on the reactant ratio. A mechanism was proposed which includes preliminary complex formation between the reactants.
