Popis: The study presents the results of investigation concerning the effective administration of drugs from methylxanthine group to prevent severe renal dysfunction in critically ill neonates. Renal protective effect of the therapy is provided by prevention of adenosine-induced renal vasoconstriction occurring under conditions of oxygen lack. The majority of studies demonstrate positive effects of the drugs from methylxanthine group in a comprehensive treatment of term neonates born with asphyxia, preterm neonates with respiratory distress syndrome signs, and those with congenital and acquired heart defects. Positive changes in hourly urine output and glomerular filtration rate are determined. Creatinine serum levels and β2-microglobulin level in urine decrease. Clinical efficacy of the drugs from methylxanthine group should be further investigated in order to prevent acute renal damage in neonatal group of patients as well as to find out side effects, early and remote consequences.
