Popis: | By the late thirteenth century the feudal custom entailing the providing of gite by vassals to their lord was becoming obsolete. When still demanded by a lord the obligation was almost always commuted into a money payment by the vassal. This article investigates the expenses of Edward I and Edward III when they were no longer demanding gite and, while campaigning in Flanders and Brabant, had to provide for the transportation of their forces, horses, provisions, and war materials; to pay for the lodging of themselves and their entourages; and to pay compensation for damages, wounds, and homicides perpetrated by their forces on individuals in Flanders and Brabant. |
