Popis: The combination of Schmidt plates and an automatic measuring machine provides a powerful means to investigate the proper motions of the Galactic halo globular clusters and the more nearby dwarf spheroidal satellites with respect to a reference frame of thousands of background galaxies. Using Tautenburg Schmidt plates measured on the APM facility we have determined the absolute proper motion of the globular cluster M3 to be μ x = −0.13 ± 0.07 and μ y = −0.14 ± 0.05″/cent.
