Influence of sparking conditions and of electrode temperature on the relative elemental sensitivity in spark-source mass spectrometry

Popis: The influence of the sparking conditions on the elemental sensitivity of spark-source mass spectrometry has been studied using various aluminium, copper and steel standard reference materials. The relative sensitivity coefficients of elements with boiling and melting points considerably different from those of the internal standard appeared to be a function of the spark-source voltage and of the repetition frequency. Electrode temperature appears to be an important parameter, as could be shown by comparing the measured sensitivity coefficients with and without cooling of the electrodes with liquid nitrogen.
