Popis: | 1. It has been established that, in drying a gas containing a micro impurity of hydrogen chloride, the zeolites are gradually broken down. A gradual reduction of activity is a practical consequence of the breakdown. The degree of breakdown falls off in the sequence NaX > NaA > CaY. KNa-erionite appeared completely stable under these conditions. 2. Hydrogen chloride adsorbed by the zeolite in the process of drying a hydrogen-containing gas can then be completely desorbed. Its complete desorption occurs at 450°C from general purpose zeolites and at 250–300 °C from erionite. 3. The degree of zeolite breakdown as a result of hydrogen chloride adsorption decreased if desorption of water is carried out at a lower temperature (250 °C), without attempting simultaneously to completely desorb HCl. 4. Type NaX zeolite should be considered most suitable for drying a gas containing traces of hydrogen chloride if simultaneous adsorption of appreciable amounts of other impurities does not hinder its use for the purpose of drying. The effective service period of such a zeolite when desorption is carried out at 250° is evaluated by the number of cycles and the amount of hydrogen chloride passed through the adsorbent together with the gas being dried, which, after 13–15 cycles, may reach 100 mg/g of adsorbent. 5. Erionite is a promising zeolite, completely suitable for use to dry gases containing hydrogen chloride. |
