Popis: | Ethical obligations state that informed consent should be given without coercion or undue influence. However, students can be vulnerable to perceived pressure when being recruited to participate in faculty-led research. The current study surveyed 276 undergraduate students regarding their perception of being pressured into participating in research and demographic factors. Students generally reported some pressure to participate in research and younger students, students of color, and international students reported higher perceptions of pressure to participate in research. However, there were no significant differences based on gender or year in school. Some scenarios resulted in higher ratings of pressure to participate. Results suggest special protections to avoid students being pressured to participate in research, especially those in populations that are more vulnerable. |
