Popis: This chapter analyses the value orientation of Dutch cultural policy. While in its early stages Dutch cultural policy was very much an ideologically driven praxis aiming at social engineering, since 1992 it has taken a different direction. Some claim the age of ‘post-politics’ steered cultural policy in a more neutral direction, the Cultural Policy Act being instrumental in this. Others see neoliberal tendencies and new managementspeak (New Public Management) taking cultural policy in the opposite direction, increasingly embracing market logics and focusing on instrumental (economic) impact. In an effort to settle the debate this chapter presents a value sociological analysis of policy documents and of subsidy allocations and discusses to what extent the value orientations guiding decision making in cultural politics have changed.
