Popis: Father Angelo Secchi is known for his fundamental contribution to astrophysics. Less known are the applications that he suggested in several different fields of the natural and urban environment to improve the conditions of the inhabitants and to limit damage to the climate and natural resources. This chapter describes synthetically some of the activities that he started to limit hydrogeological damage to mountains and lowlands, to limit the suffering of the populace due to the lack of drinking water, to make safer housing in case of an earthquake, and to protect buildings of important cultural significance against lightning and fire.
