Popis: | This paper examines the empirical validity of several hypotheses recently advanced by Feieraband, et al. (1969), that conflict within developing nations is due to low growth rates in “social achievements” combined with high growth rates of “social aspirations.” A test for the interaction effect of both variables is found to be significant, and in addition there is a significant main effect due to “social achievements.” The implications of the findings for relative‐deprivation and functional theories of social change, as well as relevant literature pertaining to development, are discussed. In view of the findings and questions remaining, some suggestions are made for subsequent research. |
