Popis: Emf measurements at 298 K are reported for galvanic cells in which one half-cell contains an aqueous electrolyte solution and the other the same electrolyte in methanol + water mixtures of varying composition. The electrolytes NaF, NaBr, Nal, NaClO4 and NaBo4 have been studied over most of the composition range from pure water to pure methanol using flowing amalgam electrodes in each half-cell; some studies have also been carried out using silver-silver bromide electrodes. The data have been combined with standard Gibbs energy of transfer and conductance data, much of it reported for the first time, to obtain solvation potentials for the cells; the solvation potentials have then been combined with diffusion data from earlier work [2] to give absolute relative solvation intensities of several anions in methanol + water mixtures. The results show the decreasing water solvation in the series F−, Br−, I−, ClO4− and Bo4− and provide the parameters needed for the calculation of solvation potentials of Wagner cells with a wide range of electrolytes, based on the methanol + water solvent system.
