| Popis: | In the introduction the development of the University Library of Graz is described. A description of the automated issue system GRIBS with an integrated short title catalogue follows. This development was urgent because the claims for the books from the closed stacks in a conventional way did not function satisfactorily. During the last ten years the number of book issues at the University Library of Graz increased 10-times. From the issue system and the short title catalogue developed on demand of the readers an online-public-catalogue. This catalogue was starting point for a library system in Graz, consisting of the University Library including its Faculty Library and of the University Library of the Technical University Graz. It is an open system consisting of three different computers connected by Ethernet. It is followed by the Austrian cataloguing system BIBOS used for 21 research libraries in Austria with one central computer at the university of Vienna. The question of retrospective conversion has not been solved in Austria as yet. Also the automation of interlibrary loan is still open. Information services by OPAC, online retrieval and CD-ROM via a LAN are working well. Finally some proposals for an improved delivery of original articles are presented |
