Simple formulas, given earlier (L. Dresner, Appl. Supercond., 4, 167 (1996)), for the AC hysteresis losses in high-temperature superconductors whose resistivity ϱ may be taken to vary as a power n of the current density J(ϱ = kJn), are compared with the results of numerical calculations presented by N. Amemiya et al. Paper MVA-I2, Applied Superconductivity Conference (ASC '96), Aug. 25–30, (1996), and found to agree well. When n → ∞, the formulas reduce to those of the critical-state model. Because the formulas are capable of rapid evaluation, they are well suited for use in design calculations. |
