Popis: Whatman No. 1 chromatography paper is wetted with 0.5 M CdCl 2 solution and then dried. When this paper is exposed to a gas containing hydrogen sulfide, a surface reaction on paper causes accumulation of the analyte, depending on the time of exposure and the concentration of hydrogen sulfide in gas. No visible change is observed after this reaction. However, when this paper surface is subjected to ultraviolet radiation with a wavelength of 300 nm, it shows luminescence. The intensity of luminescence can be correlated with hydrogen sulfide concentration if the exposure time is kept constant. The system has a linear response up to 3.0 ppm H 2 S; the detection limit (3s) is 15 ppb.
