Popis: This chapter explores how the aging services network in the United States functions in meeting the needs of transgender older adults by providing inclusive and comprehensive services. There are limited research and related literature that addresses the needs of the older adult LGB population and their access to older adult services, and further, there is even less research that specifically addresses older transgender or queer-identified adults’ needs and access to aging services. From the lack of population-level data to limited understanding among service providers, it is clear the current national aging services network is unprepared to provide quality programs and services for transgender older adults. In order to provide competent and responsive care and services to older transgender adults, the Older Americans Act (OAA) and the Administration on Aging will need to mandate the explicit inclusion of sexual and gender minorities into service surveys, staff training, and OAA programs and services. The chapter ends with policy and service recommendations to ensure that transgender older adults are able to access welcoming and affirming aging-specific services.
