Popis: Paracoccus denitrificans is a gram negative bacterium which grows in soil. When provided with a nitrogen source under anaerobic conditions, such as when the soil substratum is not aerated by plowing, Paracoccus carries out denitrification. In this manner Paracoccus and similar denitrifying bacteria convert nitrogen containing nutrients in fertilizer to nitrogen gas, causing the loss of millions of dollars from the agricultural economy.
