Popis: | Fresh bovine manure was covered with emergence traps at 2-hr intervals during the day and night once a week from May to October to study the oviposition habits of the horn fly, Haematobia irritans (L.). The average production of adult horn flies per manure pat ranged from 39.9 between 8 and 10 AM to 99.0 between 2 and 4 AM. The overall production averages for the 22 weeks were 66.5 nies per pat; night averdge 81.5 per pat; day average 61.0 per pat. Thus, if provided with an oviposition medium, the horn fly female will oviposit day or night. |
