The role of the lungs and the liver in the kinetics of lymphatic leukemia L1210 cells was studied in mice. Radiochromium ( 51 Cr) labelled cells were introduced intravenously and intraportally via a spleen puncture. Quantitative data were obtained on the distribution of transplanted labelled cells in tissues and organs, for two different time intervals. Some differences in the interaction between the cells and the lung and between the cells and the liver have been revealed. The cells taken up in the liver, or those passing through it, undergo functional changes and a great number of them are probably destroyed there. The cells taken up in the lungs are partially released undamaged and/or in the form of insoluble fragments. |
