This study investigates the feasibility of using rice husk biochar as heterogeneous acid catalysts for insitu methanolysis of fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) derived from Hermetia illucens prepupae. The biochar preparation was carbonized at 500°C for 2 hours and sulphonated using concentrated sulphuric acid. Response surface methodology RSM based Box Behnken design of experiment was employed to study the significance and interactive effect of (i) methanol to sample mass ratio, (ii) catalyst loading, (iii) reaction time, and (iv) temperature on FAME yield. The maximum FAME yield under the optimized conditions was 95.1% achieved at 24.94 wt% of catalyst loading with the reaction time of 54.6°C for 248.4 minutes and methanol ratio of 1:7.72. |
